Napanee Rugby Club

Postby matt Perry on Wed Mar 21, 2007 8:08 pm

In the past few years the Napanee Rugby Club has been trying to establish a team but there has been no games available. But this seems to be the year. Last year we put together an over 18 team and played the RMC practice squad which seemed to be a break through the womens side also play a couple of exhibition games and faired very well. Tim Sheffield is looking forward to running a Under 18 Mens side a Over 18 side also a womens side and possibly a touch mini's team. This will be running in the summer and as early as May. For more information give Tim a Call.

Thanks and come on out if you are interested in learning the game no expiereince necessary.

What rugby position would be best for me? I'm about 5'9 to 5'10 and weigh about 185 lbs (84 kg). I can run pretty fast in short bursts, but I have asthma which inhibits my running abilities. I'm also very strong.

I think it's something where you'd have to come out and let the coaches assess what your strengths are. They'd probably want to see how you handle the ball, if you're eager to make physical contact, and attributes like those.

On a good rugby team, a lot of the parts can be interchangeable and it depends on the scheme they use where you might work - so it isn't too easy to suggest a position. In a very basic scheme, forwards tend to run shorter bursts but they may run more often. Backs maybe run for longer periods of time, but the ball may not get out to them as often. I think your size puts you somewhere where you could be flexible to play either.
